Living in Oxfordshire

Living in Oxfordshire

Whether you’re drawn by open countryside or the county’s lively little towns, there are many reasons to buy a new home in Oxfordshire.

Things to see and do in Oxfordshire

Starting in Oxford, the historic county town is packed with cultural highlights and notable landmarks, many of which are linked to its world-famous university. From the Bodleian Library to the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, the History of Science Museum and the Bridge of Sighs are also must-visits. Likewise Christ Church Cathedral, the Botanic Gardens and the city’s Norman castle.

Recommended Developments - Abbey Fields (Barratt)

There’s lots to keep you occupied across the rest of the county, which is home to Broughton Castle and Blenheim Palace, as well as Wychwood Forest and Shotover Country Park. The Cotswolds provide the perfect backdrop for relaxing walks through scenic countryside, while the North Wessex Downs and Chiltern Hills are also on hand for peaceful hikes and bike rides.

Recommended Developments - Kings Gate

Education

This is a great place to live if you have children, with a strong selection of schools rated as outstanding by Ofsted. This applies to Windmill Primary in Oxford and Buckland CofE down the road from Faringdon. Didcot Girls’ School, Witney’s Bartholomew School and Frank Wise School in Banbury are all in the education board’s top band, along with Cherwell School in Oxford.

New Development - Brookside Meadows (Barratt)

Transport links in Oxfordshire

Oxfordshire’s transport links are generally a little stronger in the east of the county. This is thanks to the presence of the M40 motorway which dips in and out of Oxfordshire on its way from Birmingham to London. Places like Banbury and Oxford have great rail links, with the latter offering trains to London which take around 45 minutes.

Recommended Development - The Pavilions
